Noise Risk Assessment (NRA)

Occupational noise exposure is a major workplace health risk and may lead to Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) if not properly controlled. Our Noise Risk Assessment is conducted in accordance with DOSH / JKKP requirements, including the Occupational Safety and Health (Noise Exposure) Regulations 2019 and the Industrial Code of Practice for Management of Occupational Noise Exposure and Hearing Conservation 2019 (ICOP Noise 2019).

Noise Risk Assessment must be carried out by a Competent Noise Risk Assessor (NRA) registered with JKKP / DOSH, using approved instruments and recognised monitoring methods.

Objectives of Noise Risk Assessment

The objectives of conducting Noise Risk Assessment include:

Noise Risk Assessment Methodology

Our assessment approach typically follows these steps:

  1. Workplace walk-through and review of work activities
  2. Identification of noise sources, similar exposure groups (SEG) where applicable, and monitoring plan
  3. Area noise measurement and/or personal noise exposure monitoring using approved instruments
  4. Data analysis and comparison against regulatory requirements (NEL)
  5. Recommendations for control measures (engineering, administrative, and PHP)

Area vs Personal Noise Monitoring – Quick Comparison

Item

Area Noise Monitoring

Personal Noise Exposure Monitoring

What it measures

Noise levels at specific locations or work areas

Actual noise exposure of an employee over a representative work duration (normally up to 8 hours, depending on work pattern)

Purpose

Identify noisy areas and noise sources

Determine individual employee exposure and compliance with NEL

Outcome

Noise mapping, identification of Hearing Protection Zones

Daily noise exposure value for employees and need for control measures / HCP

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How often should Noise Risk Assessment (NRA) be conducted?

Noise Risk Assessment should be conducted at least once every five (5) years, or earlier if there are significant changes such as:

  • Modification to machinery or equipment
  • Changes in work process or workplace layout
  • Introduction of new noise sources
  • Complaints related to noise exposure or hearing symptoms

This is in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health (Noise Exposure) Regulations 2019 and ICOP Noise 2019.
